CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) released guidance to State Medicaid agencies in regards to Federal legislation requiring use of tamper-resistant prescription pads. The law is intended to reduce occurrences of fraudulent and counterfeit prescriptions.
Effective April 1, 2008, a tamper-resistant Prescription Pad must contain at least one required security feature. After October 1, 2008, written prescriptions must meet security feature requirements within each category.
* one or more industry-recognized features designed to prevent unauthorized copying of a completed or blank prescription form:
